Logistic Regression

Logistic Regression: continued your work with regression by using logistic regression. Custom Essay

This week, you have continued your work with regression by using logistic regression. In this Application, you will perform a logistic regression analysis.

To prepare for this Application:

  • Review Chapter 19 of the Field text for a description of the logistic multiple regression using IBM SPSS Statistics.
  • Review Chapter 5 from the APA manual, “Displaying Results.”
  • Review the media resources demonstrating the logistic regression.

The assignment:

Complete Smart Alex’s Task #6 on p. 812 to complete the logistic multiple regression analysis exercise using the condom.sav dataset from the Field text. You can follow the steps outlined on p.799 as a guide. Report your findings in APA format according to the guidelines in the IBM SPSS Statistics Application Assignment Guidelines handout. The final document should be 2–3 pages long.

Week 9: Logistic Regression

Introduction

You now know how to calculate the odds ratio. However, many events that occur (for example, the presence or absence of disease) are usually the result of a large number of factors. Logistic regression is similar to multiple regression in that it offers a way to find an adequate model, consisting of one or more variables, that can predict the possibility of a given outcome.

This week, you will learn how to work with logistic regression.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this week, you will be able to (for logistic regression):

  • State underlying assumptions
  • Determine whether assumptions have been met
  • Propose alternatives if assumptions are not met
  • State null and alternative hypotheses
  • Analyze data using IBM SPSS Statistics
  • Interpret and report the results with IBM SPSS Statistics, including effect size
  • Describe sample size
  • Report results in APA format
  • Create a review of literature to support the final research design proposal

Required Resources

  • Course Text: Discovering Statistics Using IBM SPSS Statistics

o Chapter 19, “Logistic Regression” (pp. 760–794, 812)

In this reading, you will review what you learned about logistic regression last week. You will also learn how to interpret and report logistic regression, how to test assumptions, and how to use multinomial logistic regression.

  • Handout: Statistics Application Evaluation Criteria (Word document)

This handout will guide you in completing and submitting your logistic regression Application 1 Assignment for this week.

  • Software: IBM SPSS Statistics Standard GradPack (current version). Available in Windows and Macintosh versions. Please refer to the IBM SPSS Software area on the left navigation bar for more information on how to install, register, and license this software.

You will use this software to complete this week’s Application 1 Assignment.

Review of Literature

In this Application, you will continue to work on your Final Project by reviewing literature about your research topic.

To prepare for this Application:

  • Review the journal articles that you researched during your Week 6 Application 2 Assignment.

The assignment:

  • Write a 5- to 7-page paper in which you begin a review of the literature on your topic. The completed review will become part of your final research project proposal.

o Make sure that you include information about the construct that you will study as well as the procedure you will follow and statistical tests you will calculate. This will serve as the basis for the review of literature for your final paper.

o Include 7–10 papers to review. You may use the ones that you suggested to your instructor as preparation for your article critique.
