Counseling Skills with Multicultural Clients
Assignment 2: Working Ahead Assignment to Support LASA 2 Development—Counseling Skills with Multicultural Clients
It is important to be familiar with counseling skills, interventions, and techniques that can be used with culturally diverse clients. Mental health professionals are increasingly called to a standard of accountability in their work, which necessitates using evidence-based skills. Thus, they should incorporate skills and interventions that have been subjected to empirical research that supports their effectiveness and use with clients.
There are a number of ways in which mental health professionals can develop their skills (intervention strategies and techniques) in working with culturally diverse clients. However, this first implies an underlying ability to read and understand scholarly research and to critique that research.
Using your readings, the Argosy University online library resources, and scholarly sites on the Internet, locate a minimum of three scholarly articles that discuss evidence-based counseling skills that can be used with multicultural individuals.
In a 3- to 4-page paper, address the following points:
Provide a summary of each article.
Compare and contrast the strengths and weaknesses of each article.
Provide your reactions with recommendations for applying the techniques to your own counseling.
Your response should rely upon at least three sources from additional professional literature and relevant textbooks.
